Fifteen Indian nationals, who entered Sri Lanka under tourist visas, have been deported for violating the country’s immigration laws.These individuals had been involved in various activities, including working as carvers and participating in a propaganda campaign for a religious group in the Jaffna area.
The group had entered Sri Lanka under free tourist visas issued at the Katunayake Airport.Among them, two individuals were arrested for attempting to conduct a religious service in Jaffna aimed at curing diseases, which led to protests by local Hindu organisations.
These two religious priests were deported to Chennai, India, early on March 8.
In addition, eight Indian nationals working as carvers in Jaffna and five others employed in restaurants were also arrested and deported via the Palaly Airport
